Philips sells TSMC shares

The Dutch company Philips has sold the 16.2% shares it had in the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). Philips had announced the plans to do this in 2007, but didn't sell them till recently. The shares, valued at €383,- million were sold for €455,- million.

TSMC reported that they will invest in production facilities for 40 and 45 nm chips on 300 mm wafers. Companies that will use these chips include processor manufacturer AMD.  US $687 has been invested so far, and another US $107 million will be used to modify the existing 200 mm production lines.
