AMD has updated it's server- and workstationprocessors roadmaps. It concerns future plans for the Multi-Processor, Dual-Processor and Uni-Processor platforms, in other words, the Opteron 8000, 2000 (both socket F) and 1000 series (socket AM2)

Earlier we saw the Montreal processor and Bulldozer core on the roadmap, however on the latest version, these have disappeared. In their place we see the so-called Magny-Cours and Sao Paolo, respectively 12 and 6-core designs using the 45nm Shanghai architecture. We also see a new server platform called Maranello, which has four HyperTransport 3.0 connections and supports DDR3-memory.

According to this roadmap the current Uni-Processor Opteron 1000 series for socket AM2 will be followed up by a quad-core named Budapest for socket AM2+. Based on the shown specifications the Budapest will be based on the 65nm Phenom processor. In the future we see Suzuka, probably based on the 45nm Shanghai with the addition of a DDR3-memory controller. The platform will be called Catalunya, likely to mean socket AM3.

The next big improvement will be the switch from Barcelona to Shanghai, in other words, the switch from 65 to 45nm. According to AMD, Shanghai brings higher clockspeeds and lower power consumptions, more shared L3 cache and a bigger bandwidth. Shanghai should be revealed by the end of this year.
